As punk broke the already desolate streets of London in 1976, Rachael was birthed into what would become an even more destitute sprawl. Detroit, Rock City... Now home to the death gasps of rock n roll and techno, her birthplace is lost to her as it is to it inhabitants.
Having graduated on a full scholarship from the Roeper School for Gifted and Talented Children at age 16,Rachael endlessly hunted new experiences and ways to express herself without compromise. World travels and tours ensued, as did a relentless discography. Disillusionment with the music industry set in as it had years before studying art in New York.
First making a name for herself in New York City circa 94, Ms. Kozak ventured past slinging industrial hardcore records in the East Village to release her own music on her self funded label Zhark in a partnership with another of like mind. Always searching for input and inspiration, Rachael found herself running this label and two other sublabels from 1996-2010 in cities as diverse as Vancouver BC, London, Basel - Switzerland, and the West Coast USA, namely Portland. Berlin played its part as never ending temporary residence from 1996-2011.
Finding her way back to the place of her father´s birth, Vienna, she turned her energy to painting and sculpture since 2012. Finally learning German and concentrating on her visual works and writing, Rachael resided in Vienna until the end of 2015. Her first ever art exhibition premiered at the legendary Viennese SMart Café May 2nd, 2014. As it was planned to last "only" six months, to this day her works are found adorning their Dungeon space in some type of rotation. A welcome departure from sonics, painting has served as a release from the pressure of maintaining a record label and her ceaseless recording and touring. Directing her energy solely on her passions, Rachael Kozak has proven to be not only a merciless performer and producer, but also a strong female force who continues to inspire others.
Focussing on her written works, both fiction and non fiction, Rachael is in the process of collecting material for a future publication in the near future . She also remains part of the lyrical team of Austria´s biggest Metal Band, Belphegor, after working with them for the past ten years. Having found her last LP, lost for over four years due to unlikely circumstances Rachael Kozak will return under the guise of Hecate, with her ever sinister dose of extreme electronics and destroyed vocals on a self titled LP, HECATE.
Having married into Finnish blood, she now resides in Finland for the forseeable future, exacting her menacing yet beautiful work on another new land.
